Promising Findings as ES-Coach Ends

Hello,

With the Kessler Foundation grant ending on June 30, 2025, the ES-Coach project has concluded. We’ve been busy analyzing the data and are excited to share some promising preliminary findings.

Between January 2023 and June 2025, more than 60 employment programs nationwide enrolled to use ES-Coach. Data from selected employment programs that used ES-Coach for 12 or more months with a high level of engagement show substantial improvements in their implementation of key activities and best practices in supported and customized employment:

Key Activities:
• +10% increase in support leading to hiring (i.e. getting to know job seekers, finding jobs, any other supports leading to hire)
• +22% increase in support after hire
• -19% reduction in administrative tasks
• -13% reduction in non-employment services

Best Practices:
• +46% increase in support leading to hiring in community settings
• +28% increase in best practices for getting to know job seekers and finding jobs
• +52% increase in interactions with key allies (e.g., family members)

Watch for one article we just submitted to the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation and another that’s nearly ready for submission—I’ll let you know when they’re available.

A few updates:

  • ES-Coach ended, but a new grant will relaunch it in early 2026.
  • We are talking with a state IDD agency interested in using ES-Coach statewide to improve their employment services and align billing with best practices in supported and customized employment.
  • We are applying for research grants to support state IDD agencies, VR, and employment programs in implementing best practices in supported and customized employment.

Research only makes sense if it supports you in your work with job seekers. I’ll follow up to ask for your insights on which direction you’d like to see us go with our research agenda.

Stay tuned!
